Still Here
New band
SUBSIST played our first show earlier this month with DESPISE YOU / OSK / AHNA / OBACHA / SKUFF at the Russian Hall in Vancouver.
Our second show is in 6 days and is a fundraiser for a new punk venue in Vancouver.
Apparently forever playing shows in which we don't appear on the poster.
More shows:
March 26 w/ CETASCEAN (Winnipeg)
April 27 w/ OPIATE (Toronto)
July 5 w/ VILE INTENT (Montreal), AHNA, and a bunch of circus grind
There will be a Victoria show sometime this spring.
Recording a tape in less than two weeks. Nine songs about searching for meaning in an existence that appears forever meaningless.
New space
The CETASCEAN show is being held at a new punk space/venue in Vancouver that myself and a few others have been working on establishing for the past few months. An entirely different space than the fundraiser we're playing on the 23rd. We move in March 1st, first show is March 4th. There will most likely be a "grand opening" party all day on the 3rd.
The goal is to provide a punk community space for shows, film screenings, workshops and the like, as well as a record shop/punk store. Location and other relevant details will be posted shortly.
Label news
GODSTOPPER - What Matters LP should be ready before too long. Covers and inserts are done, test pressings were approved several weeks ago, so it's all about the waiting game now.
AMPS FOR CHRIST / WINTERS IN OSAKA & ERIC WOOD LP is underway. No current ETA.
THE RITA / WORKER LP is being sent off to the plant at the end of the month.
RUSALKA - Blood Comes Anyway CS will be out whenever I have the cash to spare.
After these there won't be any releases for a while.
MASS MARRIAGE - Nothing Underneath CS is still available. Order through Scream//Writhe or contact me for wholesale/trades.
Stream some of these at absurdexposition.bandcamp.com

I'll be in the Bay Area at the end of May for BOLT THROWER / BENEDICTION / AUTOPSY / NOOTHGRSUH and most likely Seattle for the similar show.

Black Sabbath - Vol. 4
Bolt Thrower - first three
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - At Carnegie Hall
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen
Column of Heaven - Demonology
Death Strike - Fuckin' Death
Sergei Rachmaninoff - Chopin's "Funeral March"
Whitehorse - Progression
The Young Canadians - Hawaii

The Postal Service
On a podcast from last year, I talked with Cory von Bohlen of Halo of Flies Records about the profits and losses between Canada Post and USPS and how it
related to the costs of their services. In 2010, Canada Post was at one
point reporting a profit of $443 million (their
largest profit in history), while USPS was down as much as $3.5
billion. Fast forward a year and Canada Post had a loss of $253 million
(the first time in 16 years they haven't had a profit), and USPS was up
$200 million (technically... read the links below) in 2011. Postal rates
for both companies continue to increase, Canada Post's rates go up
January 14th as per annual tradition. What changed over the year? Canada
Post went on strike for nearly a month, which can account for some of
their loss, but the US economy is in rough shape, so it's somewhat amazing that USPS managed to pull through. We'll see what happens when the 2012 reports come
in. Just some information that always interests me.

Exclaim review of Godstopper - What Matters
The LP goes to press this week, so here’s a quick little review from Exclaim:
The nine-track record features more of Godstopper’s doomy, dissonant noise rock, which also includes elements of sludge and is reminiscent of the Melvins at times. Beautiful melodies and catchy hooks are also prevalent, particularly on the Pixies-esque “Clean House.”
